Dock winterization at Lake of the Ozarks

Winter is hard on docks. A fall tune-up gets your dock ready for lower water levels, ice and storms, and catches problems before spring.

Covered dock on the lake in late fall with lower water

Docks on Lake of the Ozarks see lower water levels in the colder months, plus wind, ice in sheltered coves and the occasional winter storm. A dock that was fine in July can bind, stretch its cables or strain its walkway once the water drops. Winterization is a check-and-adjust visit that gets everything ready.

What a winterization visit covers

  • Cable and anchor adjustment so the dock can move with lower water without binding or pulling
  • Stiff arm and shore connection check for loose bolts and wear
  • Walkway check to make sure hinges and rollers move freely as the angle changes
  • Flotation inspection. Low water makes failing floats easier to spot. See flotation replacement.
  • Boat lift prep, including checking air lifts for leaks. See air lift repair.
  • Decking and hardware, tightening loose boards and noting repairs
  • Shoreline check for erosion exposed by lower water. See seawall and shoreline repair.

Find problems before spring

Most of the value of winterization is in what it catches. Repairs scheduled in the off-season are easier to book, and your dock is ready for the first warm weekend instead of waiting in the spring rush. Request a free estimate. Common questions

When should I winterize my dock?

Fall, after the boating season winds down and before the coldest weather. Scheduling early also means repairs found during the check can be done in the off-season.

Do I need a de-icer or bubbler?

In coves where ice forms, a de-icer or bubbler can help keep ice from building up around the dock and lift. Whether you need one depends on your location; ask during your winterization visit.
